Jennifer Lawrence breaks Guiness World Record

Jennifer Lawrence has set a Guinness World Record thanks to her role as Katniss Everdeen in the action blockbuster franchise The Hunger Games. The 24-year-old has now been named the highest grossing action movie heroine, according to a statement written on the Guinness World Records website.

Set in a dystopian future, The Hunger Games follows the story of a 16-year-old girl called Katniss. North America has become the society of ?Panem,? which is segregated into a total of 12 districts dotted around an affluent Capitol. A thirteenth district once existed, but was forced underground after its residents rebelled against the Capitol.

The remaining, financially-embattled districts were then forced to participate in a televised event called the Hunger Games. One boy and one girl from each region must be selected as ?Tributes? to undergo an intense program of training, eventually fighting one another to the death in controlled, arena-style battles.

The first two films in the Hunger Games series have managed to gross over $1.5 billion internationally, while Catching Fire remains the highest-grossing post-apocalyptic movie, earning more than $850 million worldwide. Released in 2012, the first film achieved $67.3 million for its opening day, and $152.5 million over its opening weekend.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay ? Part 1 is due for release on Nov. 21, 2014, in U.S. and U.K. theaters. Directed by Francis Lawrence, Part 1 will see Katniss moved from District 12 to District 13, as she pursues her rebellion against Panem.
